Autumn Wedding at Middleton Lodge – Julia & Alex’s Intimate Day in The Fig House

There’s something truly magical about autumn weddings, and Julia and Alex’s day at Middleton Lodge was the perfect example of that. The first weekend of October greeted us with soft golden light, warm tones, and the most beautiful mix of greens, yellows, and oranges across the gardens ,  a dream setting for any wedding photographer at Middleton Lodge.

Julia and Alex were the loveliest couple , gentle, thoughtful, and a little camera-shy at first. They had such a calm and genuine connection, the kind that doesn’t need many words to be felt. Their entire celebration took place in one venue :  from the intimate ceremony surrounded by their closest family and friends to a cozy, candlelit wedding breakfast in The Fig House. It made the day feel relaxed and seamless, giving them (and me!) the chance to slow down and soak in every little moment.

Middleton Lodge is the perfect place for a relaxed wedding day.

One of my favourite things about photographing one-venue weddings like this is how natural the storytelling becomes. There’s no rushing between places or losing time to travel ,  just genuine connections and honest, emotional moments unfolding in one beautiful space. The gardens gave us endless opportunities for portraits, and we were lucky enough to catch a soft autumn sunset that wrapped the couple in golden light.

As a documentary-style photographer, I love capturing the day as it naturally happens : the quiet glances, the small smiles, and the tender emotions that often say more than words. My warm, autumnal editing style perfectly matched the colours of the season at Middleton Lodge, creating a timeless, cozy feel that fits this time of year so beautifully.

If you’re planning an autumn or spring wedding and love the idea of everything happening in one beautiful venue, I’d love to capture your story. I’m based in Newcastle and travel across North Yorkshire, Northumberland, and Durham to photograph relaxed, heartfelt weddings full of warmth and personality.
